Woodshop & Carpentry at Clifford Academy

In the woodshop program students learn how to design and make projects utilizing hand and table tools that you would find on a worksite or in your home such as table saw, drill press and sanders. Students are also able to use a creative outlet with design personalization.  Students are also exposed to designing on the VCARVE (CAD/CAM program) program that runs our CNC machine.  Skills that are taught are measuring, conversions, sanding, critical thinking and creativity.

Our woodshop program gives students the opportunity to explore hands-on craftsmanship while developing practical skills in design, planning, safety, and tool use. Students work with a wide variety of tools including drills, drill presses, routers, sanders, scroll saws, band saws, and the table saw. They also gain confidence using essential measuring and layout tools like tape measures, speed squares, precision squares, and rulers.

Students begin with guided instruction and progress toward more independent work as they build projects like cribbage boards, chess boards, decorative wall clocks, wooden bath/door mats, and whimsical lawn whirlygigs, all of which we sell.

Along the way, they learn how to measure accurately, cut cleanly, drill precisely, and finish their work with attention to detail. Through each project, students build confidence in their skills and take pride in creating something with their own hands. The class emphasizes safety, creativity, and problem-solving—skills that transfer well beyond the woodshop.
